Prior to stepping into the industry, Alfred Hitchcock was an engineer, and being interested in creative writing, he worked in the publication house.
He joined Henley Telegraph and Cable Company as a writer and editor. Later, he found a place at Famous Players-Lasky Corporation, a studio that welcomed new talents.
This gave him an opportunity to emerge as an art director, screenwriter, and assistant director. In 1922, he made his directorial debut with the film Number 13 that wasn’t completed.
For a few years, he worked as an assistant director in Woman to Woman, The White Shadow, The Blackguard, and more. His first official directorial debut is The Pleasure Garden.
His first major success was with The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog, The 39 Steps, and The Lady Vanishes. Later, to widen his opportunities, he moved to Hollywood and became an influential director with classics including Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Psycho.
For the movie Rebecca, he received his first nomination for Best Director at the 13th Academy Awards.
