Jaemin was named Na Jaemin when born in Busan, South Korea. He grew up in Seoul, South Korea with his mother. The identity of his parents is not revealed because his parents got divorced when he was a toddler.

Hence, he is the only child of his biological parents. He went to Incheon Cheong-il Elementary School and Incheon Haewon Middle School for his schooling. Later, he went to the School of Performing Arts Seoul for higher studies.

Jaemin started his career at a very young age. In 2013, he was a trainee under SM Entertainment. He was featured in several events with the company’s pre-debut training team, SM Rookies.

In 2014, he made his debut in a reality TV show, Exo 90:2014, alongside fellow NCT members, where they danced to 90s K-pop songs.

In the following year, he officially became a part of SM Rookies, which was later known as “Mouseketeers” on the Korean revival of The Mickey Mouse Club. He also became the third member of the third sub-unit of NCT, NCT Dream.

In 2016, he made his debut with NCT Dream’s digital single, “Chewing Gum”, followed by the group’s second release, the single “My First and Last”.

In 2018, the team released the single “Go”, as well as the first album, NCT 2018 Empathy, and the single “Black on Black” on the same album.

He was cast in the second season of tvN’s My English Teen 100 Hours. He wrote the lyrics for the track “Dear Dream” of NCT Dream’s second EP We Go Up.
